Watching TV throughout the years exposed us to a crapton of commercial jingles.
But as annoying as most of them were, some were actually pretty good, to the point that even after all these years, we can still hear them as if they were just released yesterday.
1. Close Up – Moving Closer (Never the Strangers)
The lyrics: “Inch by inch, we’re moving closer. Feel’s like a fairytale ending…”
Who didn’t mistake Never the Strangers for a foreign band as soon as Ace Libre sang the first lyric of this rocking tune?
2. Close Up – Closer You and I (Spongecola)
The lyrics: “The closer I get to touching you. The closer I get to loving youuu…”
Kimerald was at the height of their power and SpongeCola was churning out hits like ‘Di Na Mababawi’, ‘Makapiling Ka’ and ‘Ayt’; the latter a collab with Gary V.
Those were the days…
3. Rejoice – Kering Keri (Kim Chiu)
The lyrics: “Kering keri susunod sa aking galaw. Kering keri laging nangingibabaw”
Altho it always felt that the hand moves were a bit awkward and forced, it was pretty satisfying to see Kim Chiu trump her angsty rivals in the music vid.
4. Rejoice – Sumusunod Sa Galaw (JaBoom Twins)
The lyrics: “Sumusunoood sa galaw mo, sumusunoood sa galaw mo…” *flips hair*
You know this track is catchy AF when, even after the original singers have long since left the showbiz, after the brand has churned out countless of tunes since then, THIS is still the song people refer to when they hear the name ‘Rejoice’
5. Rejoice – Walang Sabit (Sandara Park)
The lyrics: “Walang sabit ‘di tulad nang iba, puro porma lang naman sila…”
Before finding success as a member of the now-defunct K-Pop group 2ne1, Sandara Park starred in a couple of Pinoy films and commercials after being a runner-up in Star Circle Quest.
Who wasn’t impressed with how Dara can speak almost perfect Tagalog even if she didn’t have a drop of Pinoy blood in her?
6. Nestle – Pag-Ibig (Jay Marquez of The Company)
The lyrics: “Hindi ko malimutan kung kalian nagsimulang… matutong ikaw lang ang mahalin”
It might be the touching love story that makes this jingle so memorable, but you can’t deny that the entire vid makes your heart all senti and mushy inside.
7. McDonald’s – Huling El Bimbo (Eraserheads)
The lyrics: It’s Huling El Bimbo guys, how can you NOT know the lyrics?
The Eraserhead hit is the perfect song about a commercial where someone reminisces about their first true love.
8. Coca Cola – Sana (Nikki Gil)
The lyrics: “Sana sa bawat sandali matikman pa, Sarap ng pagsasama at simpleng ligaya”
With an angelic face and an equally gorgeous voice, this hopeful and optimistic ad launched Nikki Gil into mainstream attention.
9. Camella Homes
The lyrics: “Bulilit, bulilit sanay sa masikip kumilos, kumilos ang liit liit”
This adorable jingle from Camella Homes made audiences fall in love with the ever so cute Chacha Cañete – and also sparked Chacha’s showbiz career.
10. Coca Cola – Ito ang Beat, Sabay Sabay
The lyrics: “Ito ang beat sabay sabay, eto ang beat bawal sablay”
You weren’t alive during the 90’s or early 2000’s if you didn’t know about this craze. Almost everyone attempted to replicate this fun game, and for me, it’s still the catchiest jingle us Pinoys ever came up with.
Fun fact: This jingle was remixed and was given some pretty lit dance moves.
