Eraserheads songs for every life situation

Kat Mayuga

Eraserheads is such a big part of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) that it would not be surprising if at least one of their songs gets included in every Pinoy’s playlist.

Their music can be heard anywhere from radio stations to the strum of a guitarist who’s just learning how to play. That’s why fans rejoiced when news came out that there will be a stage musical that features the rock band’s songs.

Ang Huling El Bimbo is set to run from July 20 to August 26 so while waiting for your turn to watch, here are some Eraserheads songs which you can relate to in some life situations you find yourself in.

Ang Huling El Bimbo – When you feel like learning how to play the guitar

I dare you to ask your guitarist friends which songs they learned to play first. I’ll bet my bottom dollar that many of them will answer Ang Huling El Bimbo. This song is so common that it has already become a meme. When you don’t know which talent to share during show and tell, or if you suddenly hear your crush saying they like people who can play the guitar, Ang Huling El Bimbo is a great first song to learn.

Overdrive – When you have an upcoming road trip

It doesn’t matter whether you’re off to a beach in Batangas or to Bicol to visit Mt. Mayon. Overdrive has been and will always be the anthem for Pinoy road trips. Don’t forget to bring snacks such as burger, fries, tapsilog, and siopao!

Ligaya – When your crush is ranting about their thesis

You’re stalking your crush on Twitter when you see them cursing about every college student’s nightmare: the thesis. Make their day better by giving them words of encouragement although I don’t recommend going as far as saying “gagawin ko ang lahat pati ang thesis mo.”

Superproxy – When you’re tired and just want to sleep

Everybody at one point will feel exhausted about life. There are times when everything is hard and it’s okay to rest. During days when you can’t function well, stay in bed, listen to your favorite songs such as this one, and stay away from the toxicity of the world for a while.

Pare Ko – When you feel unlucky with your love life

Not everybody is lucky when it comes to love, and if you’re raising your hand to this, let your anger out by screaming the profane lyrics of this song.

Tuwing Umuulan at Kapiling Ka – When it’s “sweater weather”

It has been raining non-stop the past few weeks, and if you’re the type who gets cold easily, don your sweater, grab a cup of hot coffee, and put this song on speakers. Whether you’re listening alone or with someone, this song is perfect for the weather.

Maling Akala – When someone is spreading rumors about you

Maybe someone said you farted while on a date or that you ride jeepneys without paying the fare. It’s not fun when people are talking behind your back and what makes it even worse is when the rumors are far from the truth. Haters are gonna hate no matter what so just plug your earphones and turn a blind eye. Spread awesome playlists, not hate!

Eraserheads has been and will always be a part of Filipinos’ lives because it’s just so easy to fall in love with their relatable lyrics. Which of their songs speak to you the most?
